Choosing the best furniture for your child’s bedroom and making it fit for your need.
There are so many different ways to decorate a child’s bedroom. Creating a special, unique place for your child is crucial for their development. Every child is different and special in their own way. Creating a special space for them to cause their talents to excel and imagination to grow is what you want to aim to do.
First, choosing the space whether it is large or small, is the first place you start. The size of the room determines what you can put in it. There are many choices to make so knowing what kind of a space you have is what helps you make the right decisions for your child. For example when designing our first child’s bedroom we lived in a smaller apartment which had limited space so for the first bedroom we chose a toddler’s bed. When we bought a house and had a regular size bedroom we decided on a bunk bed with a double bed on the bottom. The space you have to work with is the deciding factor.
Second, choosing a color for the room should take careful consideration. You might ask your child what they would like to have or give them some color options. Giving your child a choice on their space, if they are old enough, makes them feel special and included in what you are doing. Bright colors stimulates the child’s creative side, while softer colors provide a calming effect. When choosing colors on my own children’s room at first I decided on the not so bright colors when they were a baby but then when they got older I chose brighter colors and gave them a choice. Choosing brighter colors when they were older was the best choice. Try to avoid deep dark colors. It makes the light more closed in the room.
Third, choosing the right furniture for your child’s room should be fun and what they have need of. There are many choices between color: light or dark wood, or colorful wood. Types of beds range from toddler beds, bunk beds, loft beds, twin beds, double beds, trundle beds, canopy beds, etc. Choosing the right type of furnishings are very important. If your child is of school age maybe you would consider putting a desk in the room. Make sure you pick the right type of dresser for your child’s clothing. As like some parents they prefer to hang up most of the clothes while others fold and put them all away. There are many nice options from a four drawer dresser, to a six drawer. one thing to remember, the taller the dresser the more tippy it can become. There are many neat options for toys. Either a nice toy box or a shelf with boxes for all the toys to be stowed away. Figure out what would fit your needs best. Also decide, should the room have a night stand with a lamp. For very small children you might consider just a night light instead of a light on a night stand for safety reasons. Make sure you also make good choices in mattresses to accompany your beds. Sometimes we think kids can sleep on anything but why do they sleep so good in Mom and Dad’s bed? Because we normally are set up with a good mattress. If you think the same way for your kids, they too will sleep better.
Finally, you choose whether or not you are going to do a theme for bedding, curtains etc. or will you stay neutral with certain colors. There are so many things to make the room personal. Even if you chose to do a theme I would recommend looking into Wall stickers to help decorate. They are easily removable when you want to change the room for the future, plus lots of fun for the kids to help put in place. Make sure all of your choosing was put to thought when you first started so that everything goes together. Happy decorating and think about what you wished you had when you were a kid but didn’t.
